Constipation can lead to weight gain?
Sucks, right? As if constipation in itself wasn’t annoying enough. But the cold, hard truth is that if you’re not having a bowel movement every day, odds are great that your toilet-shy poop is causing weight gain, or at least restricting weight loss.
But my friend is constipated and she’s skinny!
If an individual is chronically constipated AND skinny, their body is likely just more efficient at removing toxins. There are plenty of back-up systems in place when the bowels are not removing the trash properly. Problems occur when those back-up systems are already a little too overwhelmed. When the stool is not moving through the body properly, and out the back door, some of those toxins (that were supposed to be removed), can get reabsorbed into the system and have to be filtered out all over again. As more and more junk gets sent back into the system, the liver can get overwhelmed. If too many toxins start to accumulate, the body can store some of those toxins in fat cells to keep the body safe. Yes, it’s true that storing too much junk in fat cells can lead to other problems in the long term, but the body generally seems to turn immediate threats into a priority. Too much junk in the system is an immediate threat to the delicate balance of the blood stream. By pushing toxins into fat cells, those toxins become inert and won’t cause any immediate trouble.
How do I poop like all the cool kids?
Here’s a great video explaining how constipation works. Since there are a variety of underlying causes for chronic constipation, it’s important to first understand what is causing YOUR constipation.
So, what are my first steps?
If you’re already reading my book, Kick Your Fat in the Nuts, you can follow the steps outlined in chapter 3 for fixing digestion. For many chronic constipation sufferers, those steps could push you in the right direction. If you don’t have that book, we set up a free course on digestion for our book readers. Since our new online course system now requires some type of charge to keep out the spam registrations, we made this course 50 cents. If you need to make payments, I’m sure we can work that out. 🙂
This course will teach you how to run simple tests on your body chemistry. Tests you can run at home using tools you can pick up at most health food stores or pharmacies. Understanding how your unique body is operating will help you figure out what steps will be appropriate for your chemistry and YOUR version of constipation. We’ve heard from many followers who have seen weight loss results simply by improving their constipation. It’s amazing what the body can do once it’s able to take out the trash every day.
If you would also like to focus on major weight loss, you may opt to take our online 12-week Kick Your Fat Course. This course includes all the same information as the digestion course, but digs a lot deeper into weight loss and how to look at your own chemistry to figure out why your body is holding on to more weight. There can be a LOT more causes than just constipation. This course is $129, so if that is not in your budget, simply sign up for the 50 cent course and try to pull more information from our podcast episodes.
